The Kerem Tunnel provides a unique adventure in hiking and riding that should be enjoyed by all.
The Kerem Tunnel, Israel's first cycle tunnel, was inaugurated as part of the Jerusalem Ring Path. This 42-kilometer cycle route is located around Jerusalem.



The tunnel is a link between Nahal Refaim and Emek Motza. It is located in southern Israel located in Refaim Park. Ein Laban is the closest. Nahal Ein Kerem is the northern entrance.

The 2.1-kilometers-long tunnel project was officially inaugurated during a celebration on Thursday , attended by Jerusalem and Heritage Minister Ze'evElkin, Mayor Moshe Lion, Gihon water company chairman Avi Baleshnikov, and a slew of cyclists.

Jerusalem's glorious past was a reason for it to be an extremely popular tourist spot during the time of its glory. Elkin stated that the present as well as its rich history the tunnel project incorporates modern-day tourism. About NIS 25 million was earmarked in the project, budgeted by Elkin's ministry, the Tourism Ministry, the Jerusalem Municipality as well as the Gihon Corporation and the Jerusalem Purification and Sewerage Works, with the work carried out by the Jerusalem Development Authority.

Elkin stressed, "The Kerem Tunnel project will be the central tool for achieving our dream to change the way transportation is conducted in Jerusalem." Elkin explained that the proposed tunnel will connect with the Jerusalem Ring Path and will join existing bike paths. It will also be made paved in the various areas. The tunnel will be a great way to encourage cycling and promote green transportation in the capital.

The Kerem Tunnel was originally excavated in the year 1990 to relocate the main sewers of Gihon Corporation towards the Sorek purification facility.  נווה פריצקי This plant is located west of Sorek and is still used as an infrastructure tunnel.
