The Kerem Tunnel provides a unique ride and hiking experience which is enjoyed by all.
In the 42-kilometer Jerusalem Ring Path cycling route that surrounds Jerusalem's capital, the Kerem Tunnel was inaugurated.

The tunnel connects the path between Nahal Refaim and Emek Motza. It is located in southern Israel in Refaim Park. Ein Laban is the nearest. Nahal Ein Kerem is the northern entrance.

The opening ceremony of the tunnel, which is 2.1 kilometers long was held in Jerusalem and the Heritage Minister Ze'ev Elkin Mayor Moshelion, Avi Baleshnikov (Gihon water company chairman of the company) along with hundreds of cyclists.


"In the past, Jerusalem was an attractive tourist destination because of its rich history. Elkin stated that the current tourism industry is one of Jerusalem's treasures from the past and incorporates modern day tourism. "The launch (of [this] tunnel project is a further step in the growth of Jerusalem and it's transformation into a sought-after tourist destination for all kinds of audiences across Israel as well as across the globe."

Elkin the minister whose ministry as well as the Jerusalem Municipality led the project, said that the Jerusalem Municipality's ministry "invests hundreds of millions of shekels each year in the development all aspects Jerusalem's tourism and the development and operation of exciting tourist attractions, ventures, and activities that link the rich history of our eternal city to the future". I would like to invite cyclists to ride along a the modern, well-maintained cycling route that overlooks the distinctive landscape of Old Jerusalem.

The project was financed by the Elkin's Ministry and the Tourism Ministry. It also included the budgets for the Jerusalem Municipality and the Gihon Corporation. The work was carried out by the Jerusalem Development Authority.

Elkin stated that the Kerem Tunnel project is an crucial tool to realize the goal to alter the concept and transportation throughout Jerusalem. "The tunnel, which is connected to the long Jerusalem Ring Path, will connect the existing bike paths in the city and the ones that will be laid in the various neighborhoods to encourage cycling among the city's residents as well as its visitors, and also in promoting the green transportation revolution in the capital city."
